Me
My name is Christian. There isn’t a lot you can get from a name, but then, there isn’t much you can tell about a person from a small snippet of text on a web page. But there are a number of things I’ll reference in my scribbling, so I suppose I should catch people up with those first.

I like Geeky Things – Not typical geeky things, like Transformers or collecting comic books, though I don’t mind the occasional comic, but geeky things like social media, web programming, interactivity, video production, writing, and marketing. I work on both Macs and PCs as part of my job, so I’m a technology agnostic. And oddly enough, I study and analyze tech more than I actually use it (blogging, twitter, and facebook immediately come to mind). I’m hoping to change all that. While some folks are looking to get unplugged, I’m looking to get more plugged in.
I’m diabetic – About 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I thought it would change my life. Threats of limb loss, heart failure, blindness, erectile dysfunction…the list goes on. These are scary things, and I knew for certain that I would get up and get healthy again, no matter what. Two years later…and nothing has changed. Never underestimate a lifetime of habit. It creates a certain intertia in your life that is hard to overcome with new habits. Most of the really important changes that I need to make in my life stem from my need to learn to control my diabetes.
I’m overweight – Right now, I carry about 80 extra pounds on my frame. There was a time I was much smaller, but there goes that lifetime of habit again. It’s easy when you lack the desire to change to watch the pounds come on slowly over long periods of time. The mind plays tricks on you, and you never think you’re quite as big as you are until you get to a tipping point. Maybe nothing fits you anymore, or maybe you have to stop shopping at regular stores altogether (neither curses I’ve had to deal with yet, fingers-crossed, but they are real problems). For me, the point never really came hard like that, but my diabetes should drive me into action.
I’ve got a family – I’m married, and I have two wondeful step children. My wife is beautiful, intelligent, focused, creative, and nerdy. My kids are good-looking, smart, and adorable, and being boys, prone to inflicting grievous harm to one another. I’ve been married for nearly four years (man, has it been that long?!). My in-laws serve as the rest of my extended family, and I love the lot of them. I don’t have a relationship with any of my blood relatives anymore. The reasons, while important, likely aren’t very interesting to you. I’ll save them for another day.
I work – Honestly, I won’t talk much about my work. If there is one thing the internet has taught me, it’s that getting Dooced is way too easy. I work for a pretty big company, and I get to do some pretty cool things there. I’d like to keep it that way.
